Pet Supplies
A well prepared owner needs to make a list of essentials that they will need for a new pet. The wide array of pet toys and supplies can be overwhelming but by keeping safety, function and individuality in mind, owners can find what is right for them.
Before bringing a new pet home make plans to stop at a local pet store to stock up on supplies. A new pet will require a number of supplies to be comfortable in your home. Some things to put on your list to buy are:
- Pet beds or crates
- Pet food and bowls
- Collars and leashes
- Litter box for cats
- Plenty of toys
Before purchasing pet supplies and toys, owners should make sure they assess the construction and quality of the items. The item does not necessarily have to be expensive, it just needs to be safe for the pet and stand up to wear. Reputable pet stores may have employees that can give advice about particular products. Owners should feel comfortable asking about products before they purchase any of their pet products.
Some supplies are less common but may be needed as pet owners get to know their individual pets. While puppies and kittens are learning to become housetrained pet owners have to expect that there will be accidents in the house. If an accident does happen, which it probably will in the beginning, use a stain cleaner to remove the odor so the pet will not recognize the smell and continue to potty in the house. When a pet is fully trained pet owners will also need to purchase a scooper to remove waste from their yards. Do not leave dog waste in the yard because pet waste can be hazardous to pet and human health.
Other supplies that might be necessary to purchase are grooming tools. If you choose to groom your pet at home you will need to invest in the proper tools to take care of all the grooming tasks. Some of the grooming tools needed are nail trimmers, dog shampoo, and ear and dental cleaners. These items will have some initial startup costs but consider it an investment. Having these tools means you will be able to maintain and care for your pets grooming at home and you will not have to pay to take your pet to a professional groomer.
